A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning program designed to help you manage falls and increase your activity level.

This FREE Class is held for 2 hours a week for 8 weeks.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

- view falls as controllable
- set goals for increasing activity
- make changes to reduce fall risks at home
- exercise to increase strength and balance

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

- anyone concerned about falls
- anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
- anyone who has fallen in the past
- anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns

? set goals for eating healthy

? participate in simple, modifiable exercises that can improve mobility

? view healthy food choices as a necessary part of overall healthy and well-being

Individuals who are 60 years of age and older

? concerned about healthy eating and increasing their physical activity

? interested in improving their balance, flexibility and strength

? have a desire to improve their overall mobility

? increase their quality of life and improve or maintain their independence through increased physical activity

The Alamo Area Council of Governments and the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities have partnered to host a free 6 class series discussing various topics for older adults with IDD & caregivers. After attending classes, our health & wellness staff will follow up with participants to administer surveys that aim to discover what further supports are needed for our aging IDD population in the community.
The 1st class goes over the purpose of why these series of classes were created and will go over the following health topics: Dementia, age related health factors, the fatal five, immunizations, and how to prepare for a physician appointment.
